Practical Positive Parenting

The Center currently has a grant from the Alaska Children's Trust to work with the Alaska Christian Ministries Association (ACMin) to conduct a series of six weekly workshops designed to strengthen the foundations of family life.  Each session starts at 6:00 PM with families sharing a meal together.  Then the children and teens go to age appropriate activities designed to strengthen character.  Child care is provided for pre school children.  Parents meet together as a group to study one of six topics:  Child Development, Character Development, Family Communication, Positive Discipline, Changing Behavior and Understanding Challenging Behaviors .  After the study period, parents break into smaller groups to learn how to implement the principles they have learned.  Parenting resources are provided throughout the sessions.

There is a small fee of $25 per family for all six weeks, to offset some of the food costs .

ACMin is a non-profit, non-denominational, statewide organization that has existed since 1981.  The work of the organization is done through mobilizing and equipping people to serve in their churches and communities.  The purpose of the Alaska Christian Ministries Association is to serve the needs of Alaskans by equipping and connecting churches, agencies and families.
